PRINTED BY HAND. MADE IN WATFORD.
A small studio working in graphic apparel, one drop at a time.
designbyarty is a graphic apparel studio in Watford. Every piece sold here is printed in-house, on a heat press, by the same pair of hands that designed it.
The studio started with a question: what would it take to make graphic tees that read as considered rather than disposable. The answer turned out to be slower than the high street allows. Better blanks. Mid-heavy combed cotton, picked for hand and drape rather than margin. Designs that earn their place on the garment. A press, set up where the work gets made, so nothing leaves the room without being looked at twice.
A long career in IT, a longer interest in type, photography, and the quiet craft of printmaking. The decision to print in-house came early and has not been revisited. Outsourcing was faster. It also meant a stranger deciding what "good" looked like, and a sample turnaround that killed iteration.
Drops run small. Roughly twelve pieces. A fixed run per size. When a piece sells through, it is finished. The work is built to last in your rotation, not to be replaced by the next thing.
The studio sits in Watford because that is where the studio sits. It is not a marketing line. It is a postcode and a press.
Made by Hand
Every piece is pressed by hand in our Watford studio. No third-party fulfilment, no overseas print partners. Slight variation between pieces is part of the work, not a defect.
Small Batches
Drops run to roughly twelve pieces and a fixed number of units per size. When a run sells through, it is finished. The next drop is already in progress on the bench.
Considered, not Fast
Heavier cottons, longer development, graphics that earn the garment. Nothing here is built to last a season. The point is a piece you reach for in three years.
Printed by hand. Made in Watford. Considered, not fast.
