Slimzos Recordings

DJ Slimzee is one of the founding fathers of grime and one of the most influential DJs in UK underground music. He grew up in Bow, East London, and in 1994 helped co-found Rinse FM, broadcasting from rooftops and tower blocks when pirate radio was the heartbeat of the city.

He played a pivotal role in the shift from UK garage to grime. While others chased commercial garage, Slimzee championed the darker, more experimental instrumentals coming from young producers like Wiley and Dizzee Rascal. When there were not enough grime records to fill a set, he famously slowed down drum and bass to bridge the gap, helping shape the sound of a whole genre.

His Sunday afternoon Rinse FM shows became essential listening, a platform for MCs like D Double E, Flowdan, Skepta and Trim to debut freestyles and new music live on air. Many of those recordings are now landmarks in British music.

A founding member of the Pay As U Go Cartel, Slimzee has spent decades finding and backing new talent. Today he is recognised as a pioneer whose vision helped build one of Britain's most important musical movements, and whose influence still shapes the sound of UK underground music.
